Every Halloween season, my family tries to watch every family-friendly Halloween movie we can find, and we start on October 1st.
There are so many ways to watch Halloween movies no matter what kind of movie you're looking for. You can stream them, purchase them, rent them, or watch them on cable.
Many older kids prefer horror movies, but my little kids enjoy watching movies appropriate for the entire family.
Whenever I try to search for Halloween movies, I always find horror movies or suspenseful films that are not age appropriate for my children.
Whether you like to watch scary movies or family-friendly flicks, you can find some of the best Halloween movies for a family movie night.
I have collected up 15 family-friendly Halloween movies and I have included which streaming service to watch them on and how to rent or purchase them on Amazon Prime Video.

1. Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is a family favorite that we watch every year on Halloween night! I have been watching this movie since it came out in 1993. Hocus Pocus is about siblings who go trick or treating and stumble across the house of the famous Sanderson Sisters. Max, Dani, and Allison must figure out how to get rid of the Sanderson Sisters before sunrise. This movie stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, Omri Katz, and Thora Birch.

2. Halloweentown
The first of a series of movies, Halloweentown stars Debbie Reynolds, Kimberly J. Brown, and Judith Hoag. These fun kids Halloween movies first aired on Disney Channel. Marnie is a young teenage witch who learns about her powers from her grandmother and goes on to defeat evil villains throughout the series. You can watch the full series in order from Halloweentown (1998), Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge (2001), Halloweentown High (2004), and Return to Halloweentown (2006).

3. The Boy Who Cried Werewolf
This cute Halloween movie came out in 2010 and stars Victoria Justice, Brooke Shields, and Chase Ellison. My daughter loves to watch this movie all year. This story of a young boy who travels with his father and sister to a castle they inherited in Romania. Soon after learning about their inheritance and arriving to Romania, he discovers there's more to their family history than he thought and secrets in the castle are revealed.

4. My Babysitter’s a Vampire
This comedy and fantasy movie came out in 2010. It stars Matthew Knight, Vanessa Morgan, Atticus Mitchell, Cameron Kennedy, and Kate Todd. This movie is about a teenage boy who is not responsible enough to babysit his sister. He soon discovers the girl from his high school who is hired as his sister's babysitter is a vampire.

5. Little Monsters
A Halloween classic on our list, this movie came out in 1989 and could be great for a family Halloween movie night. While it may be too scary at certain points for younger kids, it is rated PG. This movie stars Fred Savage and Howie Mandel. Little Monsters stars a young boy who discovers a world of monsters living under his bed.

6. Double Double Toil and Trouble
This movie, staring Olsen Twins (Mary-Kate and Ashley) came out in 1993 and is great for young viewers. This adorable movie is about young twin girls who try to save their parents from their greedy aunt. Double Double Toil and Trouble is one of the many Olsen Twins movies from the 90’s.

7. The Addams Family
There have been many versions of The Addams Family movie over the years. The 2019 version starring Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron is available to stream on Hulu without live TV. What better way to put you in the Halloween mood than to watch a classic film? The eccentric family moves to the suburbs where Wednesday Addams befriends the daughter of a local reality show host. Unfortunately, conflict between the two families causes issues for The Addams Family.

8. Mostly Ghostly: Who Let the Ghosts Out?
This R.L. Stine Halloween movie came out in 2008. It stars Sterling Beaumon, Luke Benward, and Madison Pettis. The young human boy meets a set of sibling spirits who need his help figuring out the mystery surrounding their death. Together they must find a way to defeat an evil ghost to help the sibling spirits.

9. Twitches/Twitches Too
In 2005, the fantasy/family movie Twitches came out starring Tia and Tamera Mowry and Kristen Wilson. In 2007, Twitches Too came out following the events of the first movie. This series features twin witches who were separated at birth and adopted into two separate families. They meet at 21 years old and must save the world their birth mother lives in.

10. The Nightmare Before Christmas
This Halloween and Christmas movie stars Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king, who leaves Halloweentown and stumbles across Christmas town. This 1993 Tim Burton movie stars Danny Elfman, Chris Sarandon, Catherine O’Hara, William Hickey, Glenn Shadix, Paul Reubens, Ken Page, and Ed Ivory.

11. Spookley: The Square Pumpkin
Spookley is a shorter movie at only 47 minutes long but is an animated kids’ movie with life lessons. Spookley is a square pumpkin who must deal with bullying from the round pumpkins, but he receives help from a group of unlikely friends. It came out in 2004 and is starring Sonja Ball, Craig Francis, Rick Jones, Michel Perron, and Holly Gauthier-Frankel.

12. The Haunted Mansion
A 2003 fantasy and comedy movie starring Eddie Murphy, Terence Stamp, Wallace Shawn, Marsha Thomason, and Jennifer Tilly. This PG movie is sure to take the whole family on a ride and make you question ghost stories. The Haunted Mansion introduces all sorts of creepy creatures and is among the Disney classic Halloween movies to have a ride in Florida's Walt Disney World.

13. Under Wraps
This adventure movie originally came out in 1997 and was remade in 2021. The 2021 remake is starring Sophie Hammons, Malachi Barton, Phil Wright, and Christian J. Simon. A group of friends accidentally wake up a mummy they found in a basement and realize he's a friendly mummy who they befriend. The group of friends must quickly return him back to his resting place before midnight on Halloween.

14. Spooky Buddies
This cute 2011 movie stars a group of puppies who go on a spooky adventure through a haunted mansion. It stars Tucker Albrizzi, Diedrich Bader, Ameko Eks Mass Carroll, and Max Charles. This movie is among the best kid-friendly Halloween movies and is great for kids of all ages.

15. Casper
One of my favorite movies as a child, this 1995 cult classic is sure to make it in your Halloween movie list. It is starring Christina Ricci, Bill Pullman, Cathy Moriarty, and Eric Idle. A young girl and her father move into a haunted house after her father was hired to try to rid the house of evil spirits. Instead, she meets a friendly ghost and his crazy ghost brothers and learns about why the ghost's spirit is still haunting the house and tries to help them cross over to the other side.

There are plenty of family-friendly Halloween movies to watch with the whole family during this spooky season if you are looking to avoid scary Halloween movies.
Don't be discouraged if you're having trouble finding enough family-friendly Halloween movies to fill up the month of October.
